Hyderabad, India (AP) – Ishan Kishan scored 106 runs off 47 balls. Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs in the opening match of the 2025 Indian Premier League season on Sunday, March 23.
Kishan made 11 fours and six sixes in his debut hundred for the new team, which was the second highest in the history of the tournament.
Travis Head scored 67 (31 balls) and the Sunrisers continued their run of 2024 with an incredible 286-6 in 20 overs.
Hyderabad’s previous record of 287-3 was achieved last season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Royals suffer defeat despite 242-4 scoreline
Rajasthan Royals reached a score of 242-4 (20 wickets) in the return match. Dhruv Jurel posted a score of 70 off 35 balls while Sanju Samson scored 66 off 37 balls.
Once on the field, Hyderabad took an early lead as the explosive pair of Head and Abhishek Sharma (22) scored 45 off 19 balls.
Kishan found another gear, reaching the 50-run mark after 25 balls. Hyderabad, who bought him at an auction earlier, got an immediate return when the young batter smashed his attacking hundred on debut for his new team.
Kishan’s next 50 came off 22 balls and he rushed to his century, helping Hyderabad achieve the declared total in his first outing.

England pacer Jofra Archer finished the game with 0-76 from four overs, the most expensive spell in IPL history.
Thereafter, Rajasthan had too difficult a task to successfully chase the huge target despite fruitful performances from Shimron Hetmyer (42 off 23 balls) and Shubham Dubey (34 not out off 11 balls).
